A learner driver has been arrested after he allegedly stole his instructor's car while he was being guided through a three-point turn.

The 17-year-old driver left his instructor stranded on the Hoo Peninsula near the River Thames after allegedly stealing his Rover MG on February 2.

The car was spotted later the same day in Rochester High Street. A boy was arrested on suspicion of theft, Kent Police said.

The teenager from Rochester also stands accused of stealing a mobile phone and wallet from the car.

He has been released on bail until February 24.
