Detectives investigating gang crime in London have arrested a 25-year-old man after two handguns and two loaded revolvers were seized during a raid at a flat in Notting Hill.

Police searched the property in Dartmouth Close, west London at 1am yesterday after acting on intelligence.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police's Trident Gang Crime Command also discovered some live ammunition as they searched the address in Sandbourne House.

A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession of firearms and other related offences.

He remains in custody at a central London police station, Scotland Yard said today.

Acting Detective Chief Superintendent Gordon Allison said: "The arrests and seizures are another example of Trident officers acting on fast-time intelligence and removing a deadly weapon from the streets of London.

"This operation highlights the dangers posed to unarmed police officers and their bravery in confronting armed criminals who pose a high risk to the local community.

He continued: "Trident officers work closely with boroughs to protect communities from gang violence - arresting those involved and where appropriate bringing them before the courts to face justice."

UPDATE: Nathan Cuffy, 25, of Sandbourne House, Dartmouth Close, was charged with three counts of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life; possession of ammunition; possession of a Class A drug (cocaine) and two counts of possession of cannabis. He is due to appear from custody at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday.
