A man was attacked, stabbed and bitten by two teenage girls - one just 13 - after telling them off for starting fires in a park.

The 38-year-old is today recovering from the attack in Wanstead Flats, east London, after being treated for minor injuries including a small stab wound to his arm.

Two girls aged 13 and 16 were arrested in the park on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and were last night questioned at a north London police station.

Police believe he had told off the group of youngster after they tried to set a small patch of grass on fire.

A Met police spokesman said: “Police and London Fire Brigade were called to the football fields at Wanstead Flats, E11 by London Ambulance Service, at 4.16pm yesterday following reports of an assault and a fire.

“Officers attended and found a 38-year-old man suffering from a stab wound to the arm and bite marks.

“He has been taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service for treatment of his injures and is in a stable condition.”
