A man was left bleeding from his head after he was punched by a stranger during an unprovoked attack in south London.

The 45-year-old victim was walking along Brixton Road, near the Ritzy Cinema, in Brixton when he was struck in the forehead by a man which left him with a cut to the head.

The man was tended to by bystanders before he was rushed to hospital by paramedics and was later discharged.

Detectives today have appealed for witnesses to come forward following the attack on Sunday at 11.21pm.

Police described the suspect as a black man, about 5ft 5ins tall, of a stocky build and has a shaved head.

DC Anne-Marie Long, of Lambeth CID, said: "People should be able to walk along the street without the fear of violence.

"There were a number of people in the area at the time of the attack. I would appeal to any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward so we can catch the person responsible for this attack."
