A man was slashed across the face as he answered his front door to a stranger in what police say was a “motiveless” attack.

Officers were called to Straight Road, Romford, at 8.40pm on Thursday after a man in his 40s was attacked.

The suspect is alleged to have knocked on the victim’s front door and asked for him by named before launching into the attack.

The victim, who said he did not know the man who confronted him, was taken to an east London hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

No arrests have been made but police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen a black estate car driving in the direction of Gallows Corner on the night of the incident.

Police said the suspect is described as white, in his early 40s, about 5’5”, of slim build and has short black hair. He was said to be wearing black clothing.

The motive for the assault remains unknown, a Metropolitan Police Service spokesman said.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
