A driver who reversed his van over an injured police officer as he lay in the road is being sought today.

Nicholas Scantlebury, 35, allegedly fled the hit-and-run in Fordmill Road, Catford at 4pm yesterday.

Scotland Yard said two officers were carrying out a routine stop on a white Renault van after spotting damage to it.

The officers got out of the police car and one spoke to the driver. But the suspect suddenly reversed, knocking over the second officer.

The driver continued to reverse his van on top of the officer before driving off, police said.

A Met spokesman said: “An ambulance was called and the officer, aged in his twenties, was taken to a south London hospital, where he remains having suffered injuries to his leg and hand.”

The officers were attached to the Violent Crime Taskforce which tackles knife and gun crime in the capital.

Anyone with information on Scantlebury is asked to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
