Police have warned pedestrians to keep their phone conversations brief after another mobile snatching theft was caught on camera.

A 41-year-old man was strolling in Fetter Lane, the City, at about 5.15pm on January 26 when his phone was grabbed by a cyclist speeding along the pavement.

Police issued the CCTV footage today in an appeal for information and to serve as a warning to others who use their phones in public.

Mobile phone snatches have been a persistent problem in the capital in recent years and continue to increase according to City of London Police.

Most of the thefts take place between 6pm and 10pm and are carried out by cyclists or moped riders who mount the pavement, officers said.

City of London Police Inspector Doug Blackwood said: "We advise the public to be vigilant when using their phone out and about on the street in London.

"Try not to walk and text at the same time, not only does it put you at risk of injury, the distraction of texting also leaves you vulnerable.

"If you really need to make a phone call in a public place, try and keep the conversation as brief as possible."

In this incident, the suspect was a white man wearing a grey hooded top with white bottoms.

Anyone with information should call City of London Police on 020 7601 2222.
