A bodybuilder who won this year’s Mr Scotland competition has been found stabbed to death near his home.

Police launched a murder probe after the body of Michael “Musk” O’Hanlon, 45, was discovered at an industrial estate in Stevenston, Ayrshire, yesterday at around 12pm.

It is claimed the 45-year-old had become involved in an altercation before his death, the Daily Record reported.

A nearby resident described “utter mayhem” afterwards as emergency services descended on the scene.

They told the paper: “I heard a woman shout, ‘Oh no! He’s been stabbed!’

“CID were on the scene very quickly and began interviewing people in our street. I saw a police helicopter overhead.”

Police have now launched a murder inquiry and say they are following a "definite line of inquiry".

Mr O’Hanlon, who had just won the Mr Scotland title again, 23 years after he first triumphed in the same competition, ran a fitness supplement company called Musclebox with partner Eileen Kirkwood.

Paying tribute on Facebook, friend Mark Paterson wrote: "RIP Big man, will never be forgotten. An inspiration to me and many! Absolutely numb."
