The family of a man suspected of being murdered shouted 'he's dead, he's dead' when his body was found, witnesses have said.

Detectives are investigating the suspicious death of the man found unresponsive in Enfield.

Residents spoke of their “utter shock” as officers were scrambled to the scene.

The incident happened in a flat in Elmhurst Road.

James, a retail worker who also lives at the address said: “I heard a lot of people coming and going. Then there was shouting from a family member, I think his sister, shouting “he’s dead, he’s dead, he’s dead."

“The last time I saw him was on Friday in the kitchen we all share. He said he was going to cook something, he was fine. There are always a lot of people in and out of his flat.

"Before he died there were footsteps in and out but that was normal. I’m in utter shock. He was a father and had at least one son. Other members his family have been her they are all very distressed.”

Detectives have been carrying out door to door inquiries and forensic officers have swept the flat for clues.

A mother of two who lives on the road  said: “Thee have been problems at that house before and the police have been. It’s horrible to have to walk past a crime scene in the way to school.”

Another resident said: “We have had nightmares with that house and anti social behaviour. To find out someone has died is another level though. It’s very sad.”

The Metropolitan Police said a probe led by the Specialist Crime Command is ongoing.

Officers were called by the London Ambulance Service.

Scotland Yard said: “Upon police arrival the male was pronounced dead. His family has been informed.

“The death is currently being treated as suspicious and a crime scene remains in place.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesman added: “We were called at 3.01pm yesterday, November 6, to reports of an incident on Elmhurst Road, Enfield.

“We sent an ambulance crew to the scene.

“Very sadly, a man was pronounced dead at the scene.”
