A teenage moped rider is fighting for life in hospital after colliding with a car in an alleged hit-and-run.

The 18-year-old suffered serious injuries after his vehicle hit a black Nissan Pixo at around 5.50pm on Thursday, November 17, in Buxted Road, North Finchley.

After the crash, the car driver and passengers abandoned their vehicle, leaving the stricken rider lying in the road, it is claimed.

They then fled up Ashurst Road into Woodhouse Lane, police say.

Officers, paramedics and the air ambulance all attended the accident and the moped driver was taken to a north London hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Later that night, a 22-year-old man walked into a north London police station and was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving with no licence or insurance and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

He has been bailed until January pending further enquiries.

Police are now appealing to trace anyone who saw the crash or the car’s occupants leaving the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to call the witness appeal line on 020 8991 9555 or the police non-emergency line on 101.
