Police today released a picture of a man being hunted for headbutting a woman passenger on a commuter train into London.

The incident, at 8.56am yesterday on the Beckenham to Victoria train, left the 40-year-old badly shocked and with facial injuries.

The attacker, a black man with a goatee beard who was carrying a work bench, fled when the train pulled into Brixton station.

Detectives recovered the image from the station CCTV and are going through onboard cameras for further evidence.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Officers were alerted and swiftly attended the scene to carry out a search, but the man had made off.

“Medics from London Ambulance Service treated the victim on the station platform before she was later taken home.

“Officers will be conducting local enquiries into the assault, including viewing CCTV from the train and station and speaking to witnesses of the attack.”

Anyone with information of the man’s whereabouts or who witnessed the incident is urged to call 0800 40 50 40 quoting background reference B14/LSA of 22/11/2012. Information can also be passed to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
