Police have launched a hunt for a man who assaulted an off-duty officer after reportedly touching himself inappropriately on a train.

The suspect sat opposite a woman in an otherwise empty carriage on the 20.39pm train from Redhill to London Bridge on January 30 and started touching himself inappropriately while looking at her, police said.

The man was confronted by an off-duty officer as he left the train at Coulsdon South station in Croydon, south London.

The British Transport Police (BTP) said the suspect assaulted the off-duty officer as she tried to detain him. He then jumped over the ticket barriers and left the station.

After the incident the officer went to hospital but she was not seriously injured.

The man is believed to be linked to a number of other outraging public decency incidents on the railway, said BTP.

Officers believe the man in the CCTV images may have information which could help their investigation.

If you recognise him or have any information please contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 434 of 30/01/21.

Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
