Two teenagers have been charged after a police officer was stabbed in the stomach while arresting suspects in central London.

The two Metropolitan Police officers had been called to Chapter Street in Westminster following an attempted robbery of a grocery story.

One of the officers was stabbed in her stomach. She was taken to hospital, but later discharged.

A 15-year-old boy, from Barking, east London, was charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm against officer.

He and another 15-year-old, from Hampshire, also face charges of assault, attempted robbery, criminal damage and threatening a person with a blade.

The pair were also charged with assault of an emergency worker, in relation to the second officer who was at the scene.

The teenagers will appear at Highbury Corner Youth Court on Monday, police said.
