Police were today investigating footage showing a woman launching into a "racist" tirade on a busy London Underground train.

In videos posted online, the woman appears to take offence at the pair speaking in a foreign language before beginning her foul-mouthed rant.

She says: "You know English when you want a job, you know English when you want a flat, you know English when you want f***ing anything, but when you want to talk about us on the train, you talk in your own lingo."

The footage was captured on a District line train on Friday night, Mail Online reported.

A passenger named by the website as Jay said he filmed the woman's "racist abuse" at around 11pm between Mile End and Plaistow.

He said: "It was a total shock to witness this racist abuse. You really don't expect to see it in this day and age."

The incident is believed to have taken place between Mile End and Plaistow in east London

In another clip, one of the men confronts the woman and tells her he "never said something bad about you".

But the woman, who has blond hair and is wearing a black jacket, responds: "I know what you're doing - no one else has got the f***ing guts to say it, because it's a society political thing."

Passengers are then heard wading in, with one calling the woman a "bigot".

Other passengers branded the woman a 'bigot' during the verbal assault

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “We have been made aware of a video posted online which appears to show two men being racially abused on board a London Underground District line train.

“It is not clear when the video was recorded.

“Officers have launched an investigation and are currently analysing the video."

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting log 147 of 29/03/2015.
