A 12-year-old boy was stabbed repeatedly by a machete-wielding gang on the hottest night ever recorded in the UK.
In a notice sent to residents police believe this may have been a gang attack and as a result, there are still a number of suspects on the loose.
Police said the suspects could still be in the local area armed with dangerous weapons and warned of revenge attacks taking place around Poplar in the coming days.
Officers attended along with paramedics from London Ambulance Service (LAS) to the scene close to Langdon Park where they found the boy suffering multiple knife wounds to his upper body.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “A 12-year-old boy was found with stab wounds.
“He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital. His condition is not life threatening.”
A crime scene remains in place near a Nisa Local next to a closed estate.
Police said so far there have been no arrests but “enquiries are ongoing”.
The UK recorded its provisionally warmest night ever from Monday into Tuesday.
The mercury never got below 25C in places, the Met Office said. That beats the previous night-time high of 23.9C in Brighton in August 1990.
