Hundreds of kilograms of cocaine worth an estimated £50 million has washed up on the Norfolk coast.

A major police investigation has been launched after 360kgs of the drug was found in a number of hold-all bags on two beaches.

A member of the public first alerted officers after finding several bags of the Class A drug near Great Yarmouth on Thursday.

More packages then washed up near Caister on Friday morning.

The National Crime Agency has launched an investigation after estimating that, if cut and sold on the streets, the cocaine could be worth around £50 million.

Matthew Rivers, from the NCA’s border investigation team, said: “We are now working with Border Force, the Coastguard Agency and Norfolk Police to try and establish how the bags ended up where they did, however it is extremely unlikely that this was their intended destination.

“This is obviously a substantial seizure of class A drugs, and its loss will represent a major blow to the organised criminals involved.”
