A rapist who was linked to a vicious attack on a lone woman walking home alone by a bite mark has been jailed for nine years.

Adhnon Marrtab, 24, targeted a 28-year-old woman who had just been discharged from hospital, approaching her shortly after she got off a bus at Golders Green station about 3.45am.

He grabbed the victim’s phone and resisted her attempts to push him away, making sexually charged comments as he grabbed hold of the woman and raped her in a nearby churchyard.

The woman eventually managed to escape from Marrtab’s clutches by jumping over a fence and raising the alarm.

Met Police detectives found CCTV showing Marrtab using his Oyster card on a bus, linking him to the area at the time of the attack which happened on October 25 last year.

He was arrested six days later outside a hotel in Wembley, and had a noticeable bite mark on his shoulder when being booked into police custody.

The woman told officers she had bit her attacker “with strength” during the ordeal and believed he would still be carrying a mark.

Marrtab, faced with a bank of evidence against him, pleaded guilty to rape and sexual assault by penetration, and was sentenced to nine years in prison at Harrow crown court on Friday.

“This was an extremely challenging investigation and we went to great lengths to identify and reprimand Maartab”, said Detective Constable Pat Leonte, who led the investigation.

“We trawled mass amounts of CCTV footage across multiple days and worked alongside various specialist teams in pursuit of him.

“Thanks to the brave victim’s compelling evidence and the work of the wider investigation team, this dangerous man is now behind bars.”
