A man's body has been pulled out of the boating lake in Regent's Park.

Detectives have launched an investigation after the “unexplained” death of a man in his 40s in one of London’s most famous parks.

Police put up a cordon around the lake after the discovery on Tuesday afternoon. The man was pronounced dead at the scene at about 4pm.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said the Met’s homicide and major crime command had been informed and an investigation is underway.

Luxury car dealer Clive Sutton told the Standard: "I went to walk my dog and found the gates shut and a police cordon around the lake.

"An officer told me there had been a dead body found by the lake. So the area was now a crime scene and that side of the park closed to the public."

He added: "[It's] rather shocking as this is an area favoured by children and families."

The Met said the man's next of kin had been informed.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Westminster CID via 101 quoting 4835/30JAN or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
