Six men have been arrested following a smash and grab robbery of a luxury jewellery store in the City of London.

Police said four men broke into the Mappin and Webb using an axe and sledgehammer at 10.30pm last night.

The men made off with a large quantity of high-value watches from the shop located in Fenchurch Street.

Staff members were inside the shop at the time, but police said there were no injuries.

Officers from the Met’s Flying Squad have since arrested six men in connection with the incident.

The majority of the stolen property has been recovered.

The men, aged 24 to 45-year-old, remain in custody at central London police stations.

Detective Inspector Spencer Barnett said: “This was a great example of good police work. Officers made a number of arrests soon after the incident and recovered the majority of the watches."

Anyone with information or witnesses is asked to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or the police non-emergency line on 101.
