These CCTV images show two men wanted in connection with the murder of an innocent father stabbed to death in a case of mistaken identity.

The pair are being sought by police for the killing of Daniel Frederick, 34, whose former partner appeared on TV’s The Voice just days after his death.

Mr Frederick was ambushed by a gang of five men as he left his home in Stoke Newington and detectives today released CCTV today showing two suspects casually walking away from the scene minutes after the attack.

One of the men is wearing what appears to be a white tourniquet around his leg - and police believe he may have been stabbed by accident during the attack.

Rodney, from Enfield, who has a one -year-old son Carter with Mr Frederick, told the Standard last week : “His sister called me to tell me he had been stabbed and was in hospital. My first thought was that he would survive — he was so strong.

“He passed away that night — it was the biggest shock. He was a good dad. There was no bitterness in the split. I have nothing bad to say about him — he gave me the amazing gift that is Carter.”

Police have arrested three people in connection with the murder, including an 18-year-old man held as he stepped off a flight from Norway yesterday morning.(mon)

A boy aged 16 has been bailed and a 26-year-old man released under investigation.

Mr Frederick was attacked in Shakspeare Walk on the Milton Gardens estate soon after he left home on Monday January 8. Earlier he had been attending a hospital check-up for his pregnant partner.

He was rushed to an east London hospital but died later that evening.

Police say there is no evidence of a link between the attack and the murder of a 26-year-old man in Stoke Newington on Sunday evening.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Paul Considine, who leads the investigation, said: “Daniel had been with his partner earlier in the day and he was a happily expectant and attentive father.

“From the information I have it seems that Daniel may have been mistaken for somebody else. He appears to be a completely innocent victim who was walking through the estate when he was subject to an unprovoked attack.”

The images show two men walking along Clissold Road shortly before 6pm - minutes after the murder.

Detectives believe the attack may have been gang related - though they stress that Mr Frederick was not a member of a gang.

The attackers are thought to be aged between 15 and 25.

DCI Considine said : “This was an unprovoked attack on an innocent man and I hope these images will jog the memory of anyone who might have seen these men or know them.”

He added: “We are also still appealing in general for any witnesses or anyone with information who has not yet spoken to us to come forward.”

Anyone with information should call 020 8345 3734 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
