A teenager was hospitalised after an acid-like substance was thrown in his face near a busy station.

The 17-year-old suffered burns to his face and neck when the liquid was through in his face in Station Parade in Barking.

The incident happened at around 5.20pm on Tuesday, and police and paramedics were called to the scene.

The victim was taken to an east London hospital for treatement to his injuries, which police said were not life threatening.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said officers from the Met’s Trident and Area Crime Command were in investigating the incident.

She said: "No arrests have been made, enquiries are continuing."
