A thug picked up a pint glass and smashed it across a man's face in an unprovoked attack in a busy east London pub, police said.

The violent attack, which happened in The Three Crowns pub near Old Street station, left the 27-year-old victim with a gaping wound across the side of his face.

Scotland Yard said he was playing darts with a friend when the suspect picked up the pint glass from the bar before lashing out.

The victim was taken to hospital and needed several stitches.

The incident at about 7.45pm on Thursday April 13 was captured on CCTV, but police have failed to identify the suspect.

Officers have now released an image of man they want to speak to, with the suspect described as a white male, aged in his late 30s and about 5ft 8ins.

Any witnesses or anyone with any information is asked to call detectives at Hackney CID on 101 or contact via Twitter @MetCC.

To give information anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.
