A thug who stabbed a Met police officer twice with a 12-inch Rambo-style hunting knife because he thought he was “staring at my bird” has been jailed for 12 years.

Andrew Beadie, 20, attacked the plain-clothes officers in an alleyway beside the Bow Bells pub in Bow, plunging the “fearful” weapon into his abdomen twice after slashing at his arms.

The Old Bailey heard Beadie had armed himself with the serrated-edged knife on November 22 last year because he was looking for an excuse to use it, and boasted after the stabbing: “I stuck him good”.

Jailing him for 12 years with two years extra on licence, Judge Rebecca Poulet QC said: “You were out that night with violent intention, the violent conduct was random and it was absolutely terrifying for your victim.

“I believe you took out the knife that night in the sense of hoping to find a reason to use it.”

She said Beadie did not know the victim was a police officer but he was unarmed and had done nothing to provoke him.

The court heard Beadie had attacked another man in the street less than 25 minutes earlier, on November 22 last year, punching him because he knocked into his shoulder.

He had asked his partner to buy him the hunting knife and attached it to his waistband that evening when they went out with her two teenage sons.

They encountered the police officer, who was known only by his badge number in court, in the alleyway when Beadie started to confront him.

He accused the officer of “staring at my bird” and then called him a “p*ssy”.

Beadie then pulled out the knife, slashing at his arms before stabbing him in the abdomen twice.

He fled to a friend’s house in Luton after the attack and took a photograph of the knife while he was there. However, the weapon has never been recovered by police.

The officer, who was approaching the end of his career, spent eight days recovering and needed major surgery to his damaged bowel.

Judge Poulet branded Beadie a “dangerous” offender in her sentencing remarks, and ordered that he serve at least two thirds of his prison term before being considered for release.

Beadie, from Basildon, Essex, was convicted by a jury of wounding with intent and assault by beating. He was acquitted of possession of an offensive weapon and attempted murder after a trial.

He had denied all the charges.
