A young woman has died after being hit by two cars and two lorries in a suspected hit-and-run near a south London railway station.

Emergency services were called after the woman was found lying injured in Station Rise, Tulse Hill at 6.48am on Monday.

Officers believe that after being hit by an HGV while she was crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing, the woman was subsequently struck by a second lorry and two cars, none of these drivers stopped.

The victim who is believed to have been in her late 20s to early 30s, was found in the street.

Paramedics fought to save her but she was pronounced dead at the scene at 7.21am.

Scotland Yard said officers were working to identify the woman and to inform her next of kin.

Police said that a post mortem examination will be held in due course.

Detectives from the Met Roads and Transport Policing Command are investigating.

Acting Detective Sergeant Alastair Middleton said: "I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision and the moments afterwards to contact us. I would also urge the drivers of all four vehicles to come forward and speak with my team."

Anyone with information is being asked to call 101.
