Two men have been wounded in a clash at Waitrose in High Street Kensington in broad daylight as horrified shoppers looked on.

Police and paramedics descended on the scene shortly after 5pm on Monday after receiving reports of an assault.

Two men, aged in their 20s, were found suffering from "slash" wounds, police said.

One witness told the Standard that a man was "stabbed" near the entrance of Waitrose before running into the store for help.

He said there was "blood near the self checkouts".

Another said a victim was "chased" before being attacked.

The Twitter user added: "Whole section of pavement has been closed off and police everywhere."

Scotland Yard later confirmed that one of the injured men was with his friend when he was chased into a shop and assaulted by a second man.

The second man was later arrested. Both men have been taken to hospital.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at about 5.05pm on Monday, June 11 to commercial premises on Kensington High Street following reports of an assault.

"The injuries are not life-threatening."

The Waitrose incident came after another few days of knife violence in the capital.

On Friday afternoon, masked robbers on a moped slashed a woman after ambushing a family in a car in Coulsdon, near Croydon.

Edmond Jonuzi, 35, an Albanian national, was stabbed to death in north London on Saturday. Scotland Yard said the attack took place during a fight between two groups of men close to Turnpike Lane station, at about 9.40pm.

Witnesses said the victim was stabbed near the playground on Ducketts Common. Doctors tried to save him but he died at the scene. Police said Mr Jonuzi’s family had been told. There have been no arrests.

A 17-year-old boy is also fighting for life after being stabbed at 8.10pm yesterday in Coles Crescent, Harrow. No arrests have been made.

An hour earlier, a 20-year-old man was stabbed in Wilsmere Drive, Northolt. He is said to be in a stable condition. One man has been arrested. At 6.30pm, a man in his twenties was also found injured in Southwell Road, Brixton.

Police say he remains in a serious but stable condition. There have been no arrests.
