The mother of murdered honeymoon bride Anni Dewani today spoke of her anger and frustration at new hold ups in the attempt to extradite the prime murder suspect.

With the third anniversary of her daughter’s murder just a few weeks away, Nilum Hindocha says she can not understand the delays over sending Shrien Dewani back to South Africa to stand trial.

She spoke out as High Court judges ordered a new hearing later this year on Dewani’s status under an aspect of South African law.

Dewani is suspected of ordering his wife’s death but denies the offence.

Lord Thomas said the court would announce on Tuesday afternoon if it is also to reopen the question on whether it would be "unjust and oppressive" to extradite Dewani "regardless of the prognosis" of his mental condition.

Doctors now believe Dewani may never fully recover from the depression and post traumatic stress disorder he has suffered since the murder.

Outside court Mrs Hindocha, flanked by husband Vinod and children Ami and Anish, said: “I am the mother of a murdered daughter - how long do I have to wait?

“It is nearly three years since she was killed in November 2010 and we have kept our dignity and respect throughout.

“I was brought up to believe British justice is the best in the world so it’s very hard for us to understand why we are still here.”

Dewani has been fighting extradition since his 28-year-old wife was shot dead after the couple’s taxi had been hijacked on the outskirts of Cape Town.

So far three men have been convicted in South Africa for their part in the killing.

The case continues.
