A woman is fighting for life in hospital after being found injured near a north London synagogue.

Police were called to Kinloss Court near the Finchley United Synagogue after reports the woman had been hurt.

They were joined by paramedics at around 6.45pm on Sunday where they found the stricken victim, aged in her 20s.

She was rushed to a central London hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

The site where she was found is yards from the synagogue, a large Jewish place of worship just off the North Circular.

Barnet police said it was unclear how the woman received her injuries, but it was not believed to be linked to terrorism or anti-Semitism.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said there had been no arrests so far and enquiries were continuing.
