Tucking into a greasy kebab after a night out is not usually the most satisfying affair.

But when your midnight snack has been laced with mouse droppings, you could be forgiven for feeling a tad nauseous.

The owners of a takeaway kebab restaurant in Leyton have been handed a hefty fine after health inspectors discovered a mouse infestation on the premises.

Council workers found vegetables covered with mouse droppings in the kitchen of Kebabish Original.

Cooking surfaces and the kitchen floor also had traces of mouse poo, as well as general dirt and grease.

Inspectors even found that takeaway staff were using a rusty sieve to fish out lettuce leaves from a container filled with dirty water.

The owners - Mazhar Hussain and Nadeem Ahmed - were fined £6,000 following a hearing at Thames Magistrates Court on September 19.

Councillor Clyde Loakes, deputy leader and cabinet member for environment at Waltham Forest Council, said: “This appalling case is enough to make anyone think twice about putting their trust in a takeaway.

“It was quite the most revolting conditions to be preparing and serving food in.

“Some of the practices just make you wonder what the people working at this takeaway were thinking.

"The fact that vermin were running around and leaving faeces on food is just appalling.”
