Marathon effort to boost our fund

Start line: One Evening Standard reader is to be given the chance to take part in next year's London marathon
10 April 2012

The Virgin London Marathon is arguably the world's greatest city marathon. The 26.2-mile course takes in landmarks from the Cutty Sark to London Bridge, with a grandstand finish in The Mall.

Today the Evening Standard is offering one reader the chance to participate in this great event in aid of our Dispossessed charity fund. Next year's marathon, the 32nd, promises to be extra special, taking place as excitement builds for the Olympics.

To apply for the Standard's place, you will have to consider whether you can fulfil the hours of winter training. We'll also ask you to commit to raising a minimum amount for the Dispossessed Fund, which has raised and distributed millions of pounds thanks to readers' generosity.

Today, chef and marathon veteran Michel Roux who last year helped to promote our fund, said: "I hope that whoever has the privilege of running is able to raise valuable funds for this excellent anti-poverty cause - and what better time to do it than in Olympic year."

Race director David Bedford said £557.8million has been raised for charity since the marathon began. "We are immensely proud of our history of fundraising and very happy to be supportive of the Dispossessed Fund."

If you already have a place and would like to run for our charity, we would also love to hear from you.
