120 London schools get cash to beat primary places crisis

A total of 120 London schools were today given the go-ahead to take extra children, to cope with the primary school places crisis facing the capital.

Schools minister David Laws named the schools that will benefit from £820 million of funding to create new places by 2015, including Robert Clack school in Barking and Dagenham which can have 900 extra pupils. Mossbourne Community Academy in Hackney, formerly run by Ofsted head Sir Michael Wilshaw, can expand by 655 places, while Highfield Primary School in Enfield is expected to get funding for 200 more.

A total of 74,000 extra places will be created across the country in time for September 2015.
