Charity donates wheelchairs to stop child scans being cancelled

A nurse at one of London’s biggest hospitals has had to ask a charity for help after children missed vital scans due to wheelchair shortage.

Paediatric ward manager Rani Nair asked Variety to provide five £1,600 wheelchairs for King’s College Hospital in Denmark Hill after some children were unable to make appointments for scans and radiography in time. Ms Nair said: “By the time we wait for the wheelchair to arrive, they have cancelled the procedure.”

Jules Knight, star of BB1 show Holby City, presented the wheelchairs. Variety is aiming to raise £25 million for the Variety Children’s Hospital@King’s. King’s said a small number of non-urgent tests had had to be postponed.
