Health experts have signed a letter to the boss of delivery giant Ocado urging a rethink over plans for a lorry depot next to a north London primary school.

Parents and pupils at Yerbury Primary, in Islington, are fighting plans for the distribution centre, believing the plans would harm the health of the school’s 400 children and staff by exposing them to fumes from Ocado vans, cars, HGVs and three fuel pumps just metres from the playground.

Academics including respiratory experts Professor Jonathan Grigg from Queen Mary University and Dr Ian Mudway from King’s College have co-signed an open letter from parents to Ocado chief Tim Steiner urging the plans to be withdrawn.

An Ocado spokesman said: “We are very sorry for the anxiety that the application process has caused and are addressing these concerns directly with the school and other stakeholders”.
