LAS mental health nurse scheme in the running for national awards

London Ambulance Service has been shortlisted for two national awards recognisng the work of its team of mental health nurses.

LAS has been nominated for its groundbreaking scheme which introduced mental health nurses into the control room.

The Service's promotion of the scheme has also earned it a nomination in the Patient Safety Awards.

The winners of the awards will be announced at an annual conference in July.

Deputy Director of Quality and Nursing Briony Sloper said: “The Patient Safety Awards continue to recognise and reward outstanding practice within the NHS and it is a fantastic achievement to be shortlisted.

“We’re committed to providing the best possible care for all of our patients, including those with mental health concerns.

"We will be working hard to showcase the fantastic work we have achieved as a Service by introducing mental health nurses to the control room and the positive impact it has had.”

Now in their eighth year, the Patient Safety Awards recognise organisations that are striving to improve patient safety in healthcare and the judges were very impressed with the high standard.

Awards will be handed out at a ceremony held in Manchester alongside the Patient Safety Congress on July 5.
