London doctors to be offered extra £650 for three hours work over Easter break

Doctors in London could be paid an extra £650 to work just three hours over the Easter break.

Some surgeries in the capital will give GPs the extra wages in an attempt to offer appointments over the four-day Easter weekend, according to reports in the Daily Express.

Doctors are being given the money as an emergency measure to persuade more surgeries to offer a directed enhanced service.

The service aims to provide patients with more opportunities to see a doctor.

Health officials are said to be putting pressure on surgeries to stay open in order to take away some of the strain from A&E departments in London's hospitals, many of which are having their budgets cut.

A spokesman for NHS England (London) told the newspaper: “We are working with local clinical commissioning groups and will be offering an additional payment called a local enhanced service to cover the costs.

"While the price has yet to be finalised it is likely to be around £650 for a three-hour session in line with other areas in England.”
