A motorcyclist died in the road after medics battled in vain to save him following a crash in south London.
The rider came off his bike in Battersea Park Road, Battersea, shortly before 1.45pm on Tuesday.
Paramedics battled for over an hour to save him but he was prononunced dead at the scene about 90 minutes later.
Witness Simon Nana, a security guard who lives nearby, said passers-by had tried to help the man before medics arrived.
Mr Nana, 25, said: "The bike was smashed on the ground, in the middle of the road, but the person was on the island in between the road.
"People were trying to help him of comfort him until the ambulance arrived.
"Later there were several police cars and ambulances and the whole road was blocked off, and they said he had died.
"I don't know how it happened but it's something you don't want to see. I feel sorry for that person."
London Ambulance Service said the man, whose age is not yet known, suffered "multiple injuries" in the crash.
A spokesman said: "We sent a number of resources to the scene including an advanced paramedic and a medical team from London's Air Ambulance.
"Sadly, despite extensive efforts from our crews to resuscitate the patient, he was pronounced dead at the scene by the doctor from London's Air Ambulance.”
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said enquiries were ongoing to establish the circumstances of the crash, which happened near the junction with Macduff Road.
Both roads remained closed for several hours after the crash.
