A would-be film-maker who said he spent his last £500 on hiring an advertising hoarding in a plea for work managed to blow £6,000 on a search for an “ugly bride”.
Adam Pacitti, 24, made headlines around the world yesterday after it emerged that he had hired the sign in Shoreditch.
However, it was not the first publicity stunt by the media production graduate. In 2009, he launched an internet campaign to find a girl he claimed he had seen in a dream. Pacitti drew a sketch of the woman, who looked like the lead character Ugly Betty and posted it on his website thegirlofmydreams.co.uk, which he claims had more than four million hits.
Pacitti, from the Isle of Wight, then spent £6,000 travelling to America, Holland, Germany, Spain and France in search of lookalikes who got in touch over the internet. He used credit cards and loans to meet 20 girls in nine countries but rejected them all, telling each girl: “It’s not you.”
The search came to an end after he travelled to Amsterdam to meet “Caroline” who turned out to be two men called Jake and Ryan, who later emailed him: “Can’t believe you actually went to Amsterdam. You really are a loser.”
Pacitti’s latest stunt implored companies to give him a job, and directed them to website employadam.com which features a video job appeal.
Within minutes of posting pictures of himself and the billboard on Twitter, they had been retweeted thousands of times.
