Boris Johnson has switched on the Christmas lights at 10 Downing Street.
The huge Christmas tree placed outside Downing Street was lit up in all its glory on Wednesday marking the first of December.
In a video, the Prime Minister turned on the lights while accompanied with a group of children singing carols for the special evening.
Mr Johnson asked the children: “Do you think this Christmas will be considerably better than last Christmas?”
To which they responded: “Yes!”
Twinkling lights on the Christmas tree brightened up Number 10 on the jolly occasion.
Earlier this week, Mr Johnson has promised the nation this year Christmas will be “better than the last”.
He said: “I will make a very confident prediction: This Christmas will be considerably better than the last.”
Fears have been growing about the Omicron variant with 22 confirmed cases in England as of Wednesday amid the coronavirus pandemic.
However, Mr Johnson gave his reassurance to everyone as he said the Government does not want people to cancel Christmas parties or nativity plays this year.
He told a press conference earlier this week: “We don’t want people to cancel such events. We think that overwhelmingly the best thing for kids is to be in school, as I’ve said many times throughout this pandemic.
“What we are doing is trying to take a balanced and proportionate approach to the particular risk that seems to be posed by Omicron, or certainly is posed by Omicron, focused in particular on measures at the borders.
“And we think that’s the right way to go for the time being, until we know more and until we can get more boosters, as we’ve been saying, into people’s arms.”
