A cyclist is fighting for his life in hospital after a suspected hit-and-run crash in Camden.

The cyclist, a man aged 47, was knocked down opposite Camden Road Overground station at shortly after 11.30pm on Wednesday.

The driver failed to stop at the scene, police said.

Paramedics and police attended the scene on Camden Road at the junction with Royal College Road and the cyclist was rushed to hospital. On Thursday, the Met said he remains in a critical condition.

The car which was believed to be involved in the crash was found abandoned half a mile away on King’s Terrace.

A large stretch of the road was closed and the police and Transport for London told motorists to avoid the area.

Campaigners have previously called the road an accident black spot and last September staged a “die in” vigil and protest following the death of cyclist Ardian Zagani.

Officers working in the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing unit are investigating the collision and appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about the driver to come forward.

Anyone who can help is asked to call the Met's Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0208 991 9555, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
