The estate next to Grenfell Tower will be transformed thanks to a £57 million fund, it was revealed today.

Lancaster West Estate residents are set to receive double glazing, new kitchens and bathrooms and updated heating systems after Kensington and Chelsea council agreed the funding last night.

A report said the project would deliver “a model 21st century social housing estate”.

After the Grenfell Tower fire in June 2017, which killed 72 people, the council promised to “sensitively” refurbish the area.

The Lancaster West Residents Association helped secure extra funds for the project. Council documents say the estate is in need of “extensive refurbishment” and that the majority of residents will get new kitchens and bathrooms.

Twelve jobs, an apprenticeship and 16 training courses have been created locally thanks to the work.

Deputy council leader Kim Taylor-Smith said: “The refurbishment of the estate continues to be a huge priority for us. The work is guided by the priorities of residents... I’m proud this funding will help us to create a truly great place to live.”

The fund is on top of £32 million pledged by the Government to support Kensington and Chelsea College and the Grenfell community.
