Cyclist dies after collision with car in Surrey

A cyclist died following a collision with a car on a busy road in Surrey last night.

The incident took place just after 11.30pm on the A3 in Burpham, Guilford.

Paramedics from South East Cost Ambulance Service pronounced the cyclist dead at the scene.

The driver of the car was also injured and was taken to Royal Surrey County Hospital for treatment.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: “We sent two ambulance cars and two ambulance crews to the scene. Sadly the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.”

Surrey Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward.

A statement said: “Officers are urging anyone who may have either witnessed the incident unfolding or the events surrounding it to contact them.

“This is to identify key witnesses but also incidents of this nature can be traumatic and seeking appropriate help for those who may need it is vital.”

The road was closed overnight for accident investigation work and reopened at 9am this morning.
