A male cyclist has been hit by a bus at a busy interchange in south London, police said.

A Met spokesman said the collision happened at St George's Circus junction in Southwark at about 3pm.

The bus - which is believed to have been out of service - was left with a badly damaged windscreen after the crash, according to witnesses.

Its driver stopped at the scene, a Met spokesman said.

The London Air Ambulance attended and paramedics treated the man at the scene of the collision.

It is not yet known how old the man is.

One witness tweeted: "Man lying in road in St George's Circus after being hit by bus. He's in a bad way and so is the bus."

Another person at the scene said St George's Circus had been "closed down" after the crash.
