Elderly woman in critical condition after couple hit by a car in Pimlico

Two elderly pedestrians have been rushed to hospital after being hit by a car in Pimlico.

A man and a woman, believed to be aged in their 80s, were hit by a car near a crossing on Lupus Street.

The woman is said to be in a critical condition. The man does not have life-threatening injuries.

A photo published by the Westminster police Twitter account shows the windscreen of the silver car smashed from the impact of the collision.

Police have cordoned off the road and buses are being diverted.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Police were called at 4.30pm to Lupus Street at the junction of Winchester Street SW1, to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and two pedestrians.

"Two pedestrians, a man and a woman believed to be in their 80s, were taken to a central London hospital.

"The driver stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries."

No one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
