Female pedestrian seriously injured after being hit by lorry in Islington

A woman has suffered serious injuries after being hit by a lorry in Islington this morning.

Police were called by paramedics to Central Street, at the junction with City Road, Islington, at 10.39am after reports of a collision, in which a female pedestrian was hit by a lorry.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We sent a motorcycle responder, an ambulance crew, a duty officer and a medical team from London's Air Ambulance by car to the scene and arrived within four minutes.

"We treated a woman reported to be in her 20s for a hip injury.

"She was taken as a priority to the Royal London Hospital, escorted by the doctor from London's Air Ambulance."

Her condition is not thought to be life threatening.

Road closures were put in place while emergency services attended the scene.
