A man searching for an anonymous Good Samaritan who talked him out of suicide has said he "has some leads" on who his rescuer might be following a viral campaign.

Following his appeal, thousands of Twitter users have been sharing his story in an attempt to track down the hero.

Benjamin, who suffers from schizoaffective disorder, told ITV's Daybreak this morning that the publicity so far had provided him with some clues about the man's identity.

When asked by presenter Aled Jones whether he had found him, Benjamin replied: "Not yet, but we've got some leads and I'm working with the charity Rethink Mental Illness, who are going to go through the leads today and fingers crossed...he's going to be there."

He added that following his appeal, the Metropolitan Police had located the police officer who was on the bridge at the time of the incident.

"Things are really coming forwards - it's exciting," he said. "I'm really so grateful. Going back to [Waterloo] bridge it just made me realise how much I've overcome in the last six years. And that's all down to him."
