Family and friends of David Seath, who tragically died while running the London Marathon, have completed the last three miles of the course in his honour.

The 31-year-old Army captain, a veteran of the Afghanistan conflict, suffered a cardiac arrest near the 23-mile mark of this year's event.

After his death, a memorial fund was set up in his name which has helped raise more than 180,000 so far for Help for Heroes, his chosen charity.

And yesterday evening, a group of friends travelled down from Edinburgh to finish the last 3.2 miles of the course in his honour, describing the experience as "emotional, overwhelming, yet inspirational".

London marathon runner: David Seath

In a post on the memorial fund's Facebook page ahead of the event, they wrote: "Today we return to London to finish the 3.2 miles of the Virgin London Marathon David so tragically could not finish.

"It will not doubt be an incredibly emotional day but an important step in moving forward as a family and wider community."

They wrote afterwards: "Family and friends took an important step forward tonight by finishing the 3.2 miles David so tragically could not finish.

"Thank you to everyone who joined us in London as well as all those who walked simultaneously across the world.

"We move forward, as one."

The tribute was something former colleague Captain James Walker-McClimens of the 7th Parachute Royal Horse Artillery had always vowed to do after the tragedy

He said at the time: "In the Army we don't like unfinished business, it was something he wanted to do.

"He wanted to do the full marathon, so we are going to complete it for him."
