Girl mauled by dog taken into school

A woman whose dog savaged a five-year-old girl in a school playground was spared jail.

Tara Fairall, 35, of Lisson Grove, was picking up her son when the Staffordshire bull terrier attacked, leaving the child with four face wounds, including a deep cut to the temple.

Fairall admitted allowing her dog to be dangerously out of control at St Edward’s Roman Catholic Primary School in Lisson Grove on November 11 last year. She was placed under supervision for two years and ordered to pay more than £1,000 compensation to the victim. She was banned from owning a dog for five years and must attend 31 sessions at a community service programme.

Westminster magistrates’ court did not make an order to destroy the pet, which Fairall has since taken to Battersea Dogs Home.
