A 92-year-old retired dental nurse was seriously hurt after being mowed down in the street by a man on a mobility scooter.

Grandmother Irmgard Wicken was left with a broken leg, arm and wrist after being struck from behind while shopping near her home.

CCTV footage shows the scooter crashing into Mrs Wicken, leaving her face-down in Feltham High Street last Tuesday morning.

Mrs Wicken’s daughter Helen Lee, 57, from Sunbury-On-Thames, said the rider stopped to check on her but left when other witnesses arrived.

She said that the pensioner cried, “I’m in so much pain ... he hit me from behind, I didn’t even see him” before two people came to her aid.

Mrs Wicken is still receiving treatment in hospital and Mrs Lee says the family are considering legal action against the scooter rider, if they can identify him, after police deemed it an accident.

Mrs Lee said: “It makes me sick to watch the video. He could have killed her. She didn’t even know he was behind her.”

Retired NatWest Bank worker Mrs Lee is calling for a review of regulations on mobility scooter usage and liability following the crash.

She is urging people to sign a petition started by the family of another pensioner who was run over by a mobility scooter driver.

Olive Harris, 87, was left with a broken arm after she was struck last month in Plymouth, Devon.

There is no legal requirement to have insurance or training for the scooters.

Mrs Lee added: “Before long, someone is going to be killed. You could easily knock a child down and seriously injure them.”

Mrs Wicken is a full-time carer for her husband, who has dementia and a lung condition. She was due to be discharged from hospital today.

Her family said they will move her to a care facility for eight weeks to recover.
