The planetarium at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich usually takes visitors deep into outer space. But from today a dramatic new film will plunge them below the waves, to see the secret world of exotic coral.
Australian movie-maker Lynette Wallworth has spent five years filming sea creatures and plantlife from Papua New Guinea to the Great Barrier Reef, as well as Indonesia and Florida.
The project aims to highlight the threat to sea life — particularly coral — posed by rising sea temperatures fuelled by climate change.
Wallworth said global action was vital if coral beds were to survive: “My greatest hope is that the film encourages cooperation beyond the political cycles we seem locked in.”
Coral: Rekindling Venus is at the Peter Harrison Planetarium until July 6, with admission charge.
