It may feel as though your face is slowly melting as you endure the Tube in London this week, but foreigners are unimpressed with Brits complaining about the recent hot weather.

Headlines proclaiming a UK heatwave have been mocked by Twitter users across the globe.

Temperatures hit a record 36.7C yesterday, the hottest Britain has seen in nine years, but tweeters were quick to point out that the heat was nothing compared to the sweltering temperatures abroad.

One Australian tweeter said: "Hearing about the 'heatwave' in the uk is so cute".

Another said: "It's so funny how the UK has this "heatwave" going on lol you Englanders wouldn't be able to survive an Australian summer."

South African Neal Collins joked: "UK heatwave forcing some British men to remove socks when wearing sandals. Frightening. "

Katja Leyendecker, a German living in Newcastle, said: "Haha. Hey, UK, You call *that* a heat wave?"

Some Londoners were also quick to ridicule the British response to the hot weather.

One said: "Sure I'm alone on this but I fail to see how UK is having a heatwave ! It's warm and a little sweaty/sticky. Calm down; YoureNotDying".

Urgent health warnings were issued in response to the heatwave yesterday and paramedics dealt with a surge in calls amid fears the hot weather could result in deaths.

The London Ambulance Service said it had seen call-outs to people fainting increase by more than a third (35%) compared to the same day last week, and a 28% hike in overall calls during the period.
