London Grammar are among a host of the capital’s hottest musical stars who will battle it out at this year’s Ivor Novello Awards.

The band — Dominic Major and Londoners Hannah Reid and Dan Rothman — were one of three acts recognised in the Best Song Musically and Lyrically category for their top 20 hit Strong, along with John Newman for Love Me Again and Palma Violets for Best of Friends.

The awards celebrate British and Irish songwriting and composing.

Nominee: John Newman

Other Londoners honoured in the nominations for the 59th Ivor Novellos, announced at The Ivy Club today, were brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence of Disclosure, James Blake, winner of last year’s Mercury Music Prize, and Olly Murs.

Arctic Monkeys’ Brit Award-winning AM was nominated for the Album Award, as well as Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds for Push the Sky Away and Laura Mvula’s Sing to the Moon.

Emeli Sandé, who won two gongs last year, is nominated in the PRS for Music — Most Performed Work category for her song Clown. She will be up against Passenger’s Let Her Go and Troublemaker, sung by Olly Murs featuring Flo Rida.
